We hosted TNBS tonight. Dinner was "Steak Soft Tacos" with homemade salsa verde. Mmmm. I like that better than my homemade pico de gallo. Yes, I definitely like it better - and it's so much easier. Cook tomatillos, chunk the jalapenos, cilantro, and onions, juice a lime, and throw it all in the blender with two cloves of garlic and some salt for 30 seconds, and BAM! Salsa verde. Making pico de gallo involved finely dicing tomatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro, letting your arms rest, dicing some more, more dicing, dicing, and....there's a half-cup.
Yeah, definitely making the salsa verde again.
So a week ago we'd decided to try to make barbecued pork ribs, and I thought that our gas grill was the kind you could put wood chips in and use to impart a smoky flavor to food.
(long explanation of the resulting grill fire skipped here)
We saved the ribs, barely. I think the grill burner may be toast. Anyway, I messed with it for a while and couldn't get it to work.
So we got a Weber One Touch Silver 18.5in charcoal grill. Since Skor's first experience with a gas grill was our Coleman one, she's tickled pink about going back to charcoal. And after you get over the 30-45 minutes it takes to start up the grill (which does NOT require the use of lighter fluid if you do it right), it actually makes the food taste better than the gas grill does.
Propane definitely has its place, for example, when I get home from work at 8:15pm, I'm not too keen on spending an hour cooking a burger. But when we have more time (for example Thursdays and Wednesdays) it's perfect.
Skor and I got our eyes checked out yesterday for the first time in a year (Skor) four years (me). No more dialation of pupils! Our O.D. has a digital camera that takes a panoramic picture of the back of the eye, which they save for future comparison. I got 2 the ok for 30-day extended-wear contacts, and Skor's using the 7-day kind. It's weird to be wearing contacts again after so long without...
Skor's chaperoning a youth retreat with the church tomorrow night and won't be back until Saturday afternoon, so Leela and I have a chance to play some World of Warcraft.
That is all for now.
